Confetti comes from latin ‘conficere’ which means ‘ready made”. The almonds used to be coated with flour and honey as sugar was still unknown. Romans used to eat ‘confetti’ during important celebrations like weddings or christenings.
Today, Italians still use confetti for their wedding favours. They have to be white and rigorously in odd numbers, so that can not be parted like the newly weds.
Sulmona, in the South of Italy is the most important town for the production of these lovely candies.
